Experiences of a new domainer

By Chris

I am a “new-born” (3-month old) domainer. And as any new-born I deliberately choose to make my own mistakes and only learn by “trial and errors”. I was disappointed coming into such a conditionned cyber world without real and solid forehand knowledge. But I am also a “smart kid” looking at the pros.

Unfortunatly all pros need money first to share their knowledge. What’s the big rush anyway to become perfect? I have a secret thought in the back of my childish domainer mind: “When I grow up and learn everything, I will make some real big money”.

I was first attracted to the domain name market not because of profits, but because I was a linguist in my previous life. Having said that, I still got “sucked’ into it again. So be it! Now I have to get out of it with honors.

My first insight into the business showed to me that today’s cyber real-estate world is mainly Vanity, Greed and Ignorance. That sucks! But I went more into it anyway. But wait! There’s still must be some “real” reality to it that I can figure out. Where and How? Where and How can I “educate myself” and progress with my God given mistakes?

I recently met a good master in the trade not asking any money for his very valuable tips. How lucky I am! That’s why I would like to share my first stumbling steps and all my mistakes today with other less fortunate domainers on the block.

Here is my small formula to domain name creation (still to be proven) that I use:

USE ALL THE FREE TOOLS AT YOUR DISPOSAL FIRST, such as:

Google Web Alert

Keyword Tool Finder (adwords.google.com)

Popular Keywords at Micro Niche Finder (squidoo.com)

WHOis ToolBox.com

AND also try to take a very close look at “competition” first. How successful are they?
ie: I want to register “cashnow.com”. How is “cash.com” doing?

For this I use aboutus.org, including domaintools, compete.com, builtwith.com and Alexa.

My means, ways and tools are very basic and very limited in themselves. But what the “HECK!” I am only a new cyber baby who is walking now with a good and better feeling.

“EVERY MISTAKES THAT’S A REAL DOMAINER SHOULD MAKE.”
